Hunting midlayers sit between your base layer and outer shell, trapping warmth without adding bulk. They're built for the temperature swings that come with a day in the field, when you're moving hard one minute and glassing a ridge the next.

For Australian hunters, midlayers earn their place from late autumn through winter in the high country, alpine areas, and early mornings anywhere the mercury drops. They're also useful for evening sits, and dawn starts when temps haven't caught up to the day.

In a layering system, midlayers manage the middle ground. Your base layer wicks moisture, your midlayer insulates, and your outer shell blocks wind and rain. Get the midlayer right, and the rest of the system works properly.
